INTRODUCTION
Our client is looking for an energetic MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN (Fitter / Fitter Machinist) to provide technical services through plant and machinery installation, maintenance, repair and technical support to their customers.
This is a senior position, and the successful incumbent will be supervising and leading a maintenance team locally, nd on occasional nationally and internationally.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- N3 Mechanical Engineering Certificate, Fitting, Engineering Drawing and Mechano-technology.
- Engineering Trade Centre Certificate – Fitter Machinist/Turner
- Minimum 3 years work experience post completion of apprenticeship/learnership training
- Record of completion of said apprenticeship/learnership
- Valid Motor vehicle driving license, Minimum code 8
- Occupational Health fitness
- Police Clearance Certificate (PPC) without record that prevents access to customer site
- Willing to travel nationally and internationally
- Willingness to be available to attend to job emergency call outs outside normal working hours.
Technical skills

- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, manuals and instruction
- Proficient in using precision measuring instruments
- Ability to assess and report on condition of machinery components & plant instructions
- Proficiency in operating a wide range of machine shop equipment including, but not limited to hand tools, power tools, alignment and other fitting specific tooling.
- Experience in implementing Health, Safety and Environmental standards and procedures.
Key Performance Area and Responsibilities. (but not limited to)
- Identify health and safety hazards and assessing risks in the workplace.
- Implementing workplace procedures in accordance to the Health and Safety requirements at customer sites.
- Implement stipulated quality assurance, control standards and procedures.
- Planning and executing small plant installation, maintenance and shutdown work projects.
- Determining spare parts, tools and equipment required for a job.
- Carrying out planned maintenance work in accordance with given schedules and standards.
- Fault finding and repairing of machinery.
- Inspecting, auditing and reporting on the condition of plant and machinery
- Manufacturing of machine components in the machine shop in accordance with drawing specifications.
- Controlling costs through improvement in usage materials, time and manpower.
- Developing subordinate and junior staff members through coaching and mentorship.
- Providing regular updates on job progress.
